Labor-less Day Weekend.

For Labor Day weekend (zero labor involved...), Steve and I decided to enjoy time with family and also planned a getaway for ourselves for the end of the weekend. We spent Friday evening with Steve's parents. So blessed with amazing in-laws! Saturday morning, the men got up early to go dove hunting...annual tradition.

Us trying to look like pro hunters. Ha.
Since I am not really into guns and such, I drove to Austin early Saturday morning to spend time with my parents. It's always such a treat to see the folks. After attending my cousin's wife's baby shower, we went to dinner with some friends. Had a wonderful time catching up with friends and family!

Sunday morning, Steve flew into Austin. I picked him up at the airport and we headed to good ol' San Antone. And so began our date weekend. :) We arrived in downtown SA around noon and checked into our hotel (Home2 Suites by Hilton - HIGHLY recommend - we used points and stayed for FREE).
Super modern - loft style.
We then walked along the beautiful River Walk and stopped for lunch at a restaurant on the river (Zuni Grill) - such a fun atmosphere! I had no idea there were a thousand restaurants lining the river (okay, so that's an exaggeration, but you get the picture)...you would never guess it from walking the streets above. It's like a secret world below. So neat.
Next stop: Tower of the Americas at HemisFair Park. We loved getting to see the view of downtown from above. Only downside: we waited for a while to take the elevator to the top of the tower. And when we were ready to come down, we waited another 20 minutes in line, after which we finally got on an elevator that was MAYBE a third full (the employee wouldn't let anyone else on...not super efficient, which explained the lengthy wait). But we didn't care so much - we had no itinerary for the day - which might I add: I think that may be my favorite way to travel. So spontaneous, which is new for me. :)

We then walked to The Alamo (loved that everything was within walking distance) where we got our history lesson in for the day (and so commenced several flashbacks to seventh grade Texas History). Pretty neat to see in person.
After a short afternoon break at the hotel, we went back out and had burgers for dinner, then roamed around town and saw some crazy stuff...
Where is the water coming from...?
We walked over to the Rivercenter Mall and sat outside on the River Walk - probably my favorite thing we did in SA. So pleasant. Love spending quality time with my love!
After a fun day of exploring, we got up early Monday morning, had complimentary breakfast at the hotel, and headed to New Braunfels for the hottest, coolest time in Texas - that's right - Schlitterbahn!! Favorite. Place. Ever. Steve had never been (I went with the fam a lot growing up) and I just had to enlighten him on what he was missing. We had such a blast! Tube rides and lazy rivers will truly never get old.
On the way home, we stopped in Round Rock for a quick dinner with my parents (so fun!) and then we were on our way. So thankful for the fun weekend, and so thankful for my sweet husband and wonderful family!
